ABOUT US
SUPPORT, LISTEN, UNDERSTAND AND BE THERE.
The Oldham Bereavement Support Service is a registered charity. With a team of trained volunteers who visit bereaved people in their own homes or by appointment at our centre.
Our aim is to offer a one to one confidential and supportive relationship to those who have suffered a loss no matter how long ago, giving the bereaved person the opportunity to use such support to talk through and express their grief while trying to understand and come to terms with their loss.
We have a team of dedicated volunteers, some of whom are drawn from the caring professions and have a wealth of experience. All volunteers who visit our clients have a minimum Level 1 Counselling Certificate. Some of our volunteers are progressing towards their Counselling Diploma's and others are fully qualified counsellors. Our volunteers have the opportunity to attend training workshops which enhances their professional development and they attend regular supervision.
THE WHITESIDE CENTRE
Our centre is based in a quiet area in the grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital, Oak View, Rochdale Road, Oldham.
We aim to provide a safe environment where clients can feel supported as they express their grief.
We have a strong team of qualified counsellors who specialise in child grief, and a child friendly room which is dedicated and furnished so that the team can provide ongoing support to children & young people from the age of 6. We have a suitable waiting area where you can wait while the person you accompany is being seen by one of our volunteers.
We usually receive referrals for our adult and children's services from Doctors, Primary Care, Schools, Social Care, Families and Self referrals.
